Battle for Mercia – Saturday 6 & Sunday 7 August

Join us in the Battle For Mercia!

The immersive family adventure at Bishton Hall on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th August. 10am till 6pm.
Admission is FREE. Parking £2.

The grounds of the Georgian Mansion will be transformed back to the times of Mercia’s past. The bloody Vikings have turned up again and set up camp. Will you join with them or fight for the Kingdom of Mercia?

Choose a side or let fate decide.

Over at the arena the Warriors of the Black Bear will be telling you all about Viking fashion and proudly showing off their weaponry, before engaging in live battles using combat techniques of the time. Then it will be crowd participation time…are you ready?

This is also the area where BTB Sleeves will be running their competitions for the weekend. Warrior athletes will take on five tests of strength to find out who will be crowned King and Queen of the stones. There will also be a chance to test your strength if you are feeling brave enough.

There will also be a living history Viking encampment. Come and see how they lived and even learn how to be one of them.

There will be merchants and craftspeople displaying their tempting wares and showcasing their skills, you may even get a chance to have a go yourself. In the courtyard as well as our amazing resident traders you’ll find a good selection of hearty food stalls and through the archway you can find Mercia Spirits Lab for excellent alcoholic and non alcoholic libations. If you wish to drink like a Mercian of past times pay a visit to the mead tasting stall.

If you’d like to test your skills there will be an archery experience and axe throwing area for a fee in the rose gardens. Test your arm and eye under expert supervision. There will be other games and activities for smaller ones that we will be providing free under parental supervision. No sharp objects involved so don’t worry!

We want everyone to get into the spirit, young and old. Dressing up with the theme is encouraged but not essential at all. However there will be a roving Bard and a Mystical Mage who may encourage even the most reluctant amongst you to feel part of the day. There will also be a Mercian Warrior Queen and Viking Warrior Queen ready with the warpaint. Will you wear the Red of Viking Blood or the Blue of True Mercia?
